Qualified Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic)

About the role

We are looking for a qualified Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic) to join the pharmacy team at Netcare Parklands Hospital. Working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, you will support the safe dispensing of medicines and provide medication‑related advice to patients and healthcare staff.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense hospital and retail prescriptions accurately under pharmacist supervision.
• Provide patients and staff with information on medication usage, side effects, interactions and storage.
• Assist in the compounding, manipulation and preparation of non‑sterile and sterile medicines according to standard operating procedures.
• Manage stock of Schedule 1‑6 medicines, including ordering, repacking and inventory control.
• Support cost‑containment initiatives by monitoring drug usage, promoting generic substitution and contributing to per‑diem contract variance management.
• Participate in internal customer service surveys and help improve patient experience.

Required profile

• Qualified Pharmacist Assistant with post‑basic certification.
• Ability to work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Good communication skills for advising patients and healthcare team members.

Required skills

• Dispensing of prescription medication.
• Compounding and preparation of sterile and non‑sterile medicines.
• Stock management of scheduled medicines (Schedule 1‑6).
• Knowledge of medication cost‑containment practices.
