Property Legal Officer

About the role

The Property Legal Officer will join the Property and Store Development Team, based at our Durban head office. You will be responsible for managing the full lease lifecycle for retail stores, ensuring compliance and protecting the company’s interests.

Key responsibilities

• Administer lease processes for new openings, expansions, relocations, reductions and closures.
• Communicate promptly and accurately with internal and external stakeholders.
• Negotiate standard and hybrid lease terms and prepare, vet, and finalise offers and agreements.
• Monitor and audit document capture within the Lease Management System.
• Track lease expiry dates, renewal schedules and exercise renewal options on time.
• Negotiate renewal terms with landlords as required.
• Prepare and finalise lease addendums and manage actions related to damage, business interruption and force majeure.
• Respond to stakeholder queries regarding lease matters.

Required profile

• LLB or Law degree.
• Retail real‑estate administration experience.
• Minimum of 5 years relevant legal experience.
• Admitted attorney status preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a Lease Management System.
• Strong legal drafting and administration abilities.
