Project Financial Controller – Mining Projects

About the role

This position sits at the intersection of finance, engineering and operations for a world‑leading mining company. Based in Johannesburg East, you will ensure that large, technically complex mining projects stay financially on track from planning through execution.

Key responsibilities

• Drive project budgeting, forecasting and cost‑control processes.
• Analyse project financial performance and deliver weekly/monthly forecasts.
• Prepare cost reports, variance analysis and capital‑expenditure reporting.
• Partner with engineers and project managers to improve financial performance.
• Strengthen financial controls and support internal and external audit processes.
• Optimise reporting efficiencies and develop dashboards and insights.
• Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency and total cost of ownership.
• Enhance reporting processes and support continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum BCom Honours degree (CIMA qualification beneficial).
• 7+ years’ experience in project finance or project controlling environments.
• Strong experience in project budgeting, costing, forecasting and controls.
• Proven ability to work closely with project managers and engineering teams.
• Experience with reporting tools such as QlikView, PowerBI or similar.
• Exposure to project management systems; SAP experience beneficial.
• Excellent report writing, analytical and leadership capabilities.
• Aptitude for translating operational data into meaningful financial insight.
