Project Cost Controller – Renewable Energy EPC

About the role

AltGen is seeking a Project Cost Controller to join its renewable energy EPC team in Cape Town. Working closely with the Finance Manager and Project Managers, you will oversee cost control across the South African business unit, ensuring projects stay on budget and meet financial targets.

Key responsibilities

• Support Business Development with commercial proposals, financial inputs, and cost models for early‑stage projects (Gate 0‑4).
• De‑risk projects by validating commercial terms, financial metrics, and cash‑flow assumptions.
• Manage cost control for construction projects: monitor budgets, prepare forecasts, and report variances.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to forecast costs to completion and prepare cash‑flow forecasts.
• Review and approve project‑related expenditures and contractual revenue claims.
• Assist with budgeting, cash‑flow forecasting, and EPC/O&M tender submissions.
• Produce accurate project reports for local and group reporting, and support regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• BCom degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 5–7 years of experience in a finance role, including at least 3 years in project accounting, cost control or project finance.
• Experience in renewable energy, construction, engineering or infrastructure sectors is preferred.
• Strong understanding of IFRS.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards.
