Project Cost Controller

About the role

The Project Cost Controller will join the finance team of a leading renewable‑energy company in South Africa. Working on a 12‑18 month fixed‑term contract, the role is hybrid, with office days on Wednesdays and Thursdays in Cape Town and travel to project sites in the Northern Cape and Free State as required.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Business Development team during early‑stage commercial proposal preparation, including cost calculations (CoCa) and participation in commercial discussions.
• Own financial and cost modelling, ensuring accurate cost inputs and knowledge transfer to sales colleagues.
• Assist in project de‑risking by reviewing commercial and legal terms against company standards, margins, contingencies and cash‑flow targets.
• Help project managers transition projects through development gates, providing risk and contingency information.
• Perform cost controlling on PV construction projects: analyse actuals versus budget, forecast future costs, prepare weekly cash‑flow and liquidity forecasts, and manage EPC expense approvals.
• Support the preparation of EPC tender budgets, cash‑flow forecasts for O&M bids, and the implementation of internal controls to improve profitability.
• Produce ad‑hoc financial reports for senior management and assist the Finance Director with EPC business plan updates.

Required profile

• Proven experience in cost controlling or financial analysis for PV or EPC construction projects.
• Ability to travel to project sites in the Northern Cape and Free State.
• Strong analytical skills with a focus on budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with project managers, finance directors and business development teams.
