Professional Nurse – Operating Theatre

About the role

The Ascot Park Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its operating theatre team. The role involves delivering age‑appropriate patient care in line with South African Nursing Council standards while supporting surgical teams throughout procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care before, during and after surgery, adhering to SANC scope of practice.
• Lead and supervise theatre staff, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and protocols.
• Manage drug handling, scheduling and documentation in accordance with legal requirements.
• Maintain equipment, perform instrument, swab and needle counts, and ensure a sterile field.
• Teach and mentor junior staff on aseptic techniques and theatre procedures.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a valid SANC APC.
• Preferably two or more years of experience as a Scrub Sister.
• Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with doctors, patients and colleagues.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and handle additional hours.
