Production Line Manager – 2nd Operations (Precision Manufacturing)

About the role

The client is a precision manufacturing company seeking an experienced Production Line Manager for its 2nd Operations department in Maitland, Cape Town. The role blends hands‑on floor leadership with analytical oversight to ensure safe, efficient, on‑time production that meets strict specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and optimise all production activities within the 2nd Operations area.
• Monitor daily, weekly and monthly output against targets and drive continuous improvement.
• Implement lean manufacturing principles, 5S, visual management and waste elimination.
• Oversee ERP/SAP production modules, inventory control and cost reduction initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health & safety legislation and TPM practices.
• Lead, develop and coach production teams, handling disciplinary actions and employee development.
• Interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation to guide production processes.

Required profile

• Qualified Toolmaker (Red Seal) or Mechanical Engineering Diploma/Degree.
• Minimum 5 years in a production management role within manufacturing.
• At least 3 years leading production teams.
• Proven experience in precision manufacturing or engineering environments.
• Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing, ERP/SAP, TPM and OHS regulations.
