Production Foreman – Paper

About the role

Sappi is seeking a Production Foreman for its paper division to lead a shift‑based team, manage plant resources and ensure the delivery of high‑quality products that meet customer and mill standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a shift team, participating in forums such as MDT and SHEQ.
• Plan plant operations to optimise raw material, energy and manpower utilisation.
• Conduct first‑line troubleshooting and escalate complex issues to engineering.
• Oversee production activities including shutdowns, start‑ups, checks, log‑sheet management and trend analysis.
• Assess, coach and mentor staff, manage training, and enforce performance standards.
• Monitor and enforce SHEQ requirements, investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Control fixed costs, overtime and manpower budgets.
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and respond to customer feedback.

Required profile

• Matric and Full N4 Pulpmaking and/or Papermaking qualification or NQF Level 5.
• Minimum 3 years plant operations experience.
• At least 2 years supervisory experience.
• Proficiency with SAP and MS Office.
• Computer literate.
