Product Development & Category Manager

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic Product Development & Category Manager to lead product innovation and category strategy for our franchise network in Johannesburg. The role combines market research, supplier negotiation and cross‑functional collaboration to ensure a competitive, customer‑focused assortment across stores and omni‑channels.

Key responsibilities

• Drive product range development, category strategy and innovation.
• Conduct market, competitor and trend research to uncover growth opportunities.
• Negotiate with suppliers and support the creation of private‑label products.
• Assist franchisees with product sourcing, performance insights and merchandising guidance.
• Collaborate with internal teams on promotions, e‑commerce initiatives and strategic business objectives.

Required profile

• Diploma, degree or equivalent qualification in Business, Marketing or Commerce.
• Minimum 5 years experience in product, category, buying or retail‑focused roles.
• Strong analytical ability, commercial awareness and meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, relationship‑building and stakeholder management skills.
• Working knowledge of English and Afrikaans, valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience using Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
