Procurement Specialist

About the role

The Procurement Specialist will lead the sourcing and selection of local and international suppliers for materials, equipment and services, ensuring alignment with Protea Chemicals' procurement strategy and policy. This role combines strategic sourcing, supplier management and data‑driven reporting to optimise value across the supply chain.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate and vet suitable suppliers in line with the Protea Chemicals/Omnia Procurement Policy.
• Maintain compliance with procurement processes and consult internal stakeholders on supplier performance and needs.
• Manage and nurture mutually beneficial supplier relationships, including plant and distribution‑centre inspections.
• Lead negotiations, analyse price proposals and formulate supplier contracts, recommending changes when necessary.
• Monitor supplier performance against KPIs and enforce contract terms.
• Collect, collate, analyse and present procurement data for reporting and decision‑making.
• Maintain monthly pricing records in the ERP system and resolve price/invoice variances.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Economics, Finance, Procurement or Business Administration.
• Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) certification is advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in supply chain management, preferably within the chemicals or mining sector.
• At least 5 years’ experience implementing purchasing strategies.
