Procurement Buyer – Rail Operations

About the role

The Procurement Buyer will be responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials, components, and services essential to train and rail operations. This role ensures reliable supply, cost‑effectiveness, and compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with suppliers of railway materials and services.
• Conduct supplier audits, performance evaluations, and risk mitigation.
• Manage end‑to‑end procurement processes, including purchase orders, negotiations, and delivery coordination.
• Monitor inventory levels, forecast demand, and plan timely purchases.
• Negotiate contracts, oversee compliance, and collaborate with legal and finance teams.
• Control procurement budgets, analyse pricing, and implement cost‑saving measures.
• Ensure all procured goods meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Prepare procurement reports, spend analysis, and supplier performance metrics.

Required profile

• Proven experience in procurement, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
• Ability to manage budgets and perform cost‑analysis.
• Familiarity with ISO, SOP, and SABS standards relevant to the rail industry.
• Strong communication skills for interfacing with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
