Process Engineer – Manufacturing (COMPO)

About the role

Alstom is looking for a Process Engineer to define and optimise manufacturing processes for a new product at its Nigel (Ekurhuleni) production site. You will work closely with engineering, production and cost teams to ensure the product can be built efficiently, safely and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Gather and translate industrial requirements into manufacturing specifications during the concept phase.
• Design macro‑processes using standard SMP methodology and propose new technologies when needed.
• Identify required equipment, estimate method times and perform preliminary line balancing.
• Conduct detailed Process FMEA, FAR and FAI analyses for critical steps.
• Prepare complete industrial documentation (data sheets, IMFU, P‑FMEA, etc.).
• Develop workstation layouts respecting ergonomic and EHS rules.
• Validate product design and industrialisation through FAR/FAI before serial production.
• Support post‑launch retrofits, update workstations and help production meet QCD targets.
• Assist the Costing Manager during tender phases and represent industrial interests in R&D projects.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
• Proficiency in English (read, write, speak).
• Experience in manufacturing engineering, plant maintenance or related industrial environments.

Required skills

• Process FMEA methodology.
• First Article Inspection (FAI) and Final Acceptance Review (FAR).
• Line balancing and method‑time estimation.
• Industrial documentation (data sheets, IMFU, P‑FMEA).
• Macro‑process design using SMP standards.
• Equipment specification and workstation layout design.
• Implementation of ISO quality certifications.
