Privacy Officer (POPIA Compliance)

About the role

The Road Accident Fund's Privacy Office is looking for an officer to report to the Manager: Privacy Office. The incumbent implements the organisation's privacy policies and procedures in line with the POPIA Act and other related legislation. The position is based in Centurion.

Key responsibilities

• Handle POPI requests within legislated timelines: analyse requests, help requestors meet procedural requirements, obtain records from regions or business units and keep track of timely resolution.
• Follow up on delayed POPI requests and complaints, and give input on developing POPI processes and procedures.
• Publish articles on POPI, run awareness campaigns, train lower-level staff and keep close contact with regions and business units.
• Draft advisory opinions on request, make compliance recommendations and research legislation, case law and articles.
• Submit monthly and quarterly statistics with trend analysis and business improvement effects.
• Assist internal and external stakeholders with information requests and help maintain relationships with vendors, service providers and procurement teams so that invoices are paid on time.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or advanced diploma in Law, Compliance or Risk Management, or a related qualification.
• Approximately 3 years' experience in a risk management or compliance environment, with a focus on privacy.
• Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA and proof provided.

Required skills

• Knowledge of POPIA, governance and risk, control definitions, data security management and information assurance.
• Compliance and risk assessment, risk and compliance monitoring and reporting, and third-party management.
• Planning, organising and coordinating, report writing, multi-tasking and stakeholder relations.
