Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant (PBQ) – Beacon Bay

About the role

Dis‑Chem is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant (PBQ) for its Beacon Bay store in East London. The role involves providing pharmaceutical care, supporting the dispensing process and ensuring compliance with South African pharmacy regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the sale and dispensing of Schedule 1‑5 medicines, including preparation, compounding and repackaging of non‑sterile products.
• Support ordering, stock control and distribution of medicines up to Schedule 6 under authorised instruction.
• Interpret prescriptions, label and package medicines accurately, and verify patient details in the system.
• Provide patients with clear instructions on medication use, explain medical aid costs and answer queries at the dispensary and front‑shop.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of drug interactions, dosage guidelines and medical aid claim procedures.
• Ensure all dispensing activities are checked and signed off by a registered pharmacist.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric with a Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification.
• Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• Ability to work accurately in a fast‑paced retail pharmacy environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP and E‑Scripting systems.
• Knowledge of retail/FMCG operations is advantageous.
• Experience with oncology products (e.g., Unisolv) is a plus.
