POPI Act Compliance Officer (Part‑Time, Fixed‑Term)

About the role

Staff Finder is recruiting a qualified POPI Act Compliance Officer on a part‑time, fixed‑term basis to support one of its clients in Johannesburg. The role focuses on ensuring ongoing compliance with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) through policy development, monitoring, and advisory services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain data protection policies and procedures aligned with POPIA.
• Monitor data processing activities and verify compliance with the Act.
• Provide expert advice on personal information protection and respond to internal queries.
• Deliver training sessions to staff on data privacy and POPI compliance.
• Assist investigations of data breaches and manage incident reporting.
• Liaise with auditors, legal advisors and other external parties regarding compliance matters.
• Keep the organisation updated on legislative changes and best practices.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Law, Compliance, Data Protection or a related field.
• 3‑5 years of experience in data protection and POPI‑related compliance.
• Proven experience delivering compliance training.
• Strong understanding of South African data‑privacy regulations.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving and organisational abilities.
• Ability to work independently with flexible availability.
