PM Technician I – Electrical Preventive Maintenance

About the role

The PM Technician I is responsible for performing planned preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting and minor repairs on a wide range of electrical equipment and systems. The role ensures safe, reliable and efficient operation of plant machinery, utilities and facility infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance tasks according to maintenance plans and SOPs, completing checklists and reports.
• Inspect LV and MV switchgear, distribution boards, MCCs, motors, VFDs, PLC panels, transformers, UPS, lighting, cabling, earthing and instrumentation for wear, damage or abnormal conditions.
• Perform routine electrical testing such as voltage, current, insulation resistance, earth continuity, phase balance and thermal scanning.
• Identify and rectify basic faults, replace defective components, and escalate major issues to engineering.
• Record all activities in the CMMS, update equipment history and report recurring failures.
• Support continuous‑improvement projects, root‑cause analysis and reliability initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum education: Matric, National Diploma, Trade Certificate or equivalent in Electrical/Electromechanical Engineering or Industrial Electrical Systems.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and good communication skills.

Required skills

• Electrical maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Use of electrical test instruments (voltage, current, insulation resistance, thermal camera).
• Understanding of motors, drives, VFDs, PLCs and industrial control systems.
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards and LOTO procedures.
• CMMS utilization for work order management.
