Plant Manager - Hire Equipment Service Centre

About the role

CHEP, part of Brambles, is hiring a Plant Manager for its hire equipment service centres in Eswatini and Mozambique, including a large service centre. The role covers overall responsibility for equipment processing activities, relationships with third-party service providers and customers, and ensures that company policies, SLAs and SOPs are followed by staff and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor staff, handle employee relations and promote a zero-harm safety culture with training, accident prevention and rehabilitation programmes.
• Manage shift maintenance, resolve equipment breakdowns with the maintenance team and drive continuous improvement on efficiency, quality and cost.
• Monitor operational costs and yield, report plant KPIs and compile monthly reports.
• Manage hire stock and raw materials, run stock audits and keep the area stocked to meet customer needs.
• Develop and run quality systems, audit quality data, follow up customer complaints and recommend solutions.
• Manage third-party service providers through their SLAs, reduce costs through cooperation and ensure compliance with CHEP SOPs and statutory requirements such as the LRA, BCEA, EE and OHSACT.
• Ensure legal and company policy compliance and maintain efficient operating methods for inspection, repair and manufacturing.
• Oversee plant and property maintenance so electrical and mechanical equipment runs according to government and company rules.

Required profile

• Degree or completed diploma.
• Six Sigma Green Belt certification (advantageous).
• 10 years of production management experience in a unionised environment.
• Extensive knowledge of industrial relations and sound people management.

Required skills

• Computer literacy: SAP, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Good knowledge of OHSACT safety legislation and procedures.
• Results-driven, assertive, with strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
