Plant Engineer – Operations & Maintenance Lead

About the role

RST Special Metals is seeking an experienced Plant Engineer to provide engineering leadership that enables safe, sustainable production. You will be responsible for the reliability, integrity and availability of plant equipment and engineering services across the Mpumalanga operation.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate all engineering services and maintenance activities at the plant.
• Drive engineering excellence by improving asset performance, operational reliability and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Lead project management for new equipment commissioning and capital projects.
• Prepare and manage the annual engineering budget and maintenance system.
• Maintain engineering documentation, statutory inspections and asset‑integrity programmes.
• Develop and execute preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis, incident investigations and ensure compliance with GMR (2) responsibilities.
• Oversee health, safety, environmental legislation, OSH Act compliance and manage employees, contractors and shutdowns.

Required profile

• Technical degree or BSc in Engineering.
• 6‑10 years of plant engineering experience, preferably in a smelting or metal‑production environment.
• Previous GMR (2) appointment and responsibility.
• Proven leadership and staff‑management capabilities.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and reporting skills.

Required skills

• Operation of AC, DC and Induction furnaces.
• Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project.
• Project management expertise.
• Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA).
• Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) and environmental knowledge.
