Physician Assistant – Surgical

About the role

The Surgical Physician Assistant provides comprehensive medical care to patients throughout the surgical continuum, working directly under the supervision of a licensed surgeon. This position involves pre‑operative assessment, intra‑operative assistance, and post‑operative management to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑operative patient evaluations, including history and physical examinations.
• Assist surgeons during operative procedures, including first‑assist duties when credentialed.
• Manage post‑operative care such as rounding, wound care, and discharge planning.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, and imaging within scope of practice.
• Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the surgical team.
• Document patient encounters accurately in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Participate in on‑call coverage, surgical rotations, and quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current PA licensure in the state of practice and NCCPA certification.
• Previous experience in a surgical setting preferred; new graduates may be considered.
• Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods, lift up to 50 lb with assistance, and perform manual dexterity tasks.
