PHP Developer – Technical Support & Product

About the role

We are seeking a skilled PHP Developer to work remotely with our South‑Africa based team. The role blends customer‑facing technical support with product development, allowing you to help universities and other institutions integrate our platform while building new features on our PHP/Laravel stack.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical onboarding and integration calls covering SSO (SAML 2.0), course data mapping, EAB exports, Salesforce integrations and Microsoft Teams setup.
• Act as the primary technical resource for the customer success team, handling escalated integration requests and multi‑exchange correspondence.
• Conduct training sessions for administrators on new features and integration workflows.
• Respond to data‑security audits and provide backend technical details during onboarding.
• Collaborate with the customer success team to scope, prioritize and deliver high‑impact product features.
• Participate in sprint planning, translate customer needs into development tasks and build features using PHP/Laravel.
• Maintain, refactor and improve the legacy PHP codebase, optimise performance and reduce technical debt.
• Identify and resolve bugs promptly.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience building and maintaining PHP applications, preferably with Laravel.
• Strong background in MySQL database design, querying and optimisation.
• Proven ability to work with legacy codebases and deliver reliable upgrades.
• Familiarity with cloud environments such as DigitalOcean or AWS.
• Experience with SAML 2.0/SSO protocols and third‑party integrations (e.g., Salesforce, EAB, Microsoft Teams) is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for regular interaction with university IT teams.
