Pharmacist – Hospital Pharmacy

About the role

The Pharmacist will provide medication and supplementary services to patients and the healthcare team at Netcare Park Lane Hospital. The role focuses on safe, cost‑effective medication delivery and patient counselling within a hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense hospital and retail prescriptions, ensuring maximum patient safety.
• Provide advice on drug selection, dosage, interactions, side‑effects and therapeutic effects.
• Prepare, issue and control oncology drugs in line with pharmacy policies.
• Manage Schedule 5 and 6 drugs according to legal requirements.
• Offer medication usage advice, including storage, contraindications and side‑effects, to patients and staff.
• Supervise stock acquisition, storage, handling, packaging and conduct cyclical stock takes.
• Update clinical teams on out‑of‑stock situations and suggest alternatives.
• Perform related administrative and housekeeping tasks.
• Participate actively in team activities, supervise pharmacist assistants and interns.

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare professionals and team members.
• Willingness to supervise and guide junior pharmacy staff.
• Engagement in continuous professional development.

Required skills

• Dispensing medication and providing drug‑interaction counselling.
• Preparation and control of oncology medications.
• Management of Schedule 5 and 6 controlled substances.
• Pharmacy stock control, including ordering, expiry monitoring and stock taking.
• Accurate prescription recording in line with legislative requirements.
