Pharmacist Assistant – Qualified Post‑Basic (Night Shift)

About the role

The Pharmacist Assistant will work night shifts at Netcare Unitas Hospital, providing medication and related services under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. The role combines direct patient interaction, dispensing duties, and support for the pharmacy team.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense hospital and retail prescriptions, including compounding of sterile and non‑sterile medicines.
• Advise patients and healthcare staff on medication usage, side effects, interactions and storage.
• Manage stock of Schedule 1‑6 medicines, conduct cyclical counts and support ordering processes.
• Monitor drug costs, promote generic substitution and support cost‑containment initiatives.
• Participate in public‑health campaigns such as Breast Awareness Week and Pharmacy Week.
• Perform monthly pharmaceutical audits and provide timely drug information to clinicians.
• Supervise logistic functions related to acquisition, storage, handling and packaging of medicines.
• Ensure compliance with South African Pharmacy Council regulations and hospital policies.

Required profile

• Essential registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a Post‑Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
• Relevant post‑basic pharmaceutical qualification.
• Intermediate proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
