Pharmacist Assistant (Qualified Post‑Basic)

About the role

The Pharmacist Assistant will work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist at Netcare Garden City Hospital, providing medication and related services to patients and the healthcare team. The role focuses on safe dispensing, patient counselling and cost‑effective medication management.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense hospital and retail prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
• Compound sterile and non‑sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.
• Assist with the sale and handling of Schedule 1‑2 medicines and other scheduled substances.
• Manage stock levels, repack medicines and order scheduled substances up to Schedule 6.
• Provide patients and staff with advice on medication usage, side effects, interactions and storage.
• Offer information on general health matters, primary care, immunisation and family planning.

Required profile

• Qualified Post‑Basic Pharmacy Assistant certification.
• Ability to work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
• Strong sense of responsibility, accuracy and cost‑effectiveness.
• Good communication skills for patient and team interaction.

Required skills

• Dispensing medication.

• Patient counselling on drug usage, side effects and interactions.
