Operations Manager – UPD Cape Town

About the role

We are seeking a permanent Operations Manager for United Pharmaceutical Distributors (UPD) Cape Town branch. Reporting to the Branch Manager, the role is responsible for overseeing all operational activities to maximise asset returns and meet branch objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with legal requirements, SOPs, and Managing Pharmacist directives regarding stock quarantine, cold‑chain handling, special storage, and disposal of expired or damaged products.
• Manage operational risks in line with GRC guidelines, including theft, pilferage, expiry costs, and health‑and‑safety standards.
• Oversee stock count processes, cycle counts, and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Supervise operational staff to meet cost‑containment targets, service standards, and delivery deadlines.
• Implement audit findings, rectify discrepancies, and ensure procedural compliance.
• Direct wholesale and distribution processes such as receiving, assembling, dispatching orders, handling customer returns, POD management, and vehicle inspections.
• Maintain housekeeping, maintenance, and facility standards within the branch.
• Manage distribution contracts and nurture supplier relationships.

Required profile

• Relevant business degree or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum five years’ management experience in a high‑volume warehouse, operations, sales or retail environment.
• Proven budget management and experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
• Strong people‑management capabilities, including supervising operational teams.
• Knowledge of supply‑chain, financial, and regulatory processes.
