Operations Manager – Cold Rooms

About the role

The Operations Manager will lead the planning, organization and control of all activities within the Cold Room and Controlled Atmosphere department, ensuring efficient fruit intake, storage and cold‑chain management.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee fruit intake, off‑loading and related logistics, as well as cold storage and cold‑chain management of all fruit.
• Manage inventory of packed and unpacked fruit and ensure maintenance of refrigeration, monitoring and water‑supply equipment.
• Implement HACCP/BRC food‑safety standards, maintain related records and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation.
• Prepare and control the department budget, plan preventive maintenance and supervise external contractors.
• Participate in strategic planning sessions and contribute to expansion and upgrading of refrigeration systems.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification; experience in the deciduous fruit industry is advantageous.
• At least 5 years of management experience in a similar cold‑room environment.
• Knowledge of controlled‑atmosphere and ordinary atmospheric cold‑room operations.
