Operational Basic Ambulance Assistant

About the role

Mediclinic is seeking an Operational Basic Ambulance Assistant to respond to emergency calls and deliver basic medical care within the defined scope of practice. The role supports the ER24 service, ensuring patients receive timely and appropriate pre‑hospital assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain operational readiness for emergency calls, including vehicle and equipment checks.
• Provide patient care in line with the Basic Ambulance Assistant scope of practice and applicable clinical guidelines.
• Promote and preserve a positive public image for the ER24 service.

Required profile

• Essential: Basic Ambulance Assistant Certificate.
• Desirable: Completion of training related to Clinical Practice Guidelines published by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (training to be completed during probation if not already held).
• Essential experience: 6 months to 1 year of road‑based Basic Life Support (BLS) experience.
• Desirable experience: 2 years of road‑based BLS experience.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) proficiency.
• Knowledge of HPCSA guidelines and scope of practice.
• Familiarity with facilities, travel routes, and demographic areas served.
• Ability to complete patient report forms accurately.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.
