Occupational Hygiene Consultant

About the role

The Occupational Hygiene Consultant will lead legal compliance surveys by identifying, evaluating and controlling workplace hygiene stressors such as lighting, noise, ventilation, hazardous chemicals and ergonomics. The role involves travelling across South Africa and occasionally beyond its borders to conduct inspections and provide expert advice.

Key responsibilities

• Calibrate, prepare and operate occupational hygiene monitoring equipment.
• Plan, coordinate and execute environmental and hygiene surveys.
• Collect, analyse or arrange analysis of samples and prepare detailed reports with recommendations.
• Submit reports for review by a Registered Occupational Hygienist.
• Lead and mentor occupational hygiene assistants.
• Research new technologies, standards and specifications.
• Prepare quotations and manage client relationships.
• Ensure service level agreements are met and continuously improve client service.

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree (BSc Hons, MPH, MHSc or MSc) in Occupational Hygiene, Physiology, Biological or Environmental Sciences.
• Professional registration with SAIOH as an Occupational Hygiene Assistant or Technologist.
• Legal Knowledge certificate as required by the Department of Employment and Labour.
• Valid driver’s licence and insured vehicle.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

Required skills

• Calibration of occupational hygiene monitoring equipment.
• Use of occupational hygiene instrumentation, methods and procedures.
• Data analysis, interpretation and report preparation.
• Proficiency in Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
