Occupational Health Nurse (Part-Time)

About the role

The Occupational Health Nurse will deliver a cost‑effective occupational and primary health service, ensuring a healthy workforce aligned with organisational objectives. This part‑time position involves medical surveillance, emergency response, and health consultancy for employees.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and evaluate risk‑based medical surveillance programmes (pre‑employment, baseline, annual, transfer, exit).
• Manage occupational safety, health, and waste activities.
• Administer and follow‑up Injury on Duty cases according to company policies.
• Respond to medical emergencies within scope of practice.
• Support worker reintegration after prolonged absence and manage chronic disease early.
• Provide consultation, counselling, and referrals for employees as needed.
• Advise line management on absenteeism, sick‑leave management and occupational health compliance.
• Investigate client queries, monitor hazard exposure trends and implement preventative measures.
• Participate in internal and external audits.
• Oversee ordering, housekeeping and maintenance of occupational health equipment.
• Handle administrative functions including data capture and confidential record management.

Required profile

• National Senior Certificate.
• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing.
• Certificates in Audiology, Spirometry and Vision screening.
• Valid Dispensing certificate.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and SASOHN.
• 3–5 years experience in Occupational Health Nursing.
• Good understanding of the Health & Safety Act and related legislation.
