Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician

About the role

Macsteel Meyerton is looking for a qualified and detail‑oriented Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician to join its Quality Assurance team. You will be responsible for performing NDT inspections on steel products and components to ensure they meet customer specifications, quality standards, and industry regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) on steel parts and assemblies.
• Monitor, calibrate and maintain inspection equipment, ensuring a clean and safe work area.
• Plan and support preventative maintenance of NDT tools, managing consumables and spare parts.
• Assist in the design, modification and continuous improvement of inspection systems and procedures.
• Participate in projects aimed at enhancing product quality, equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
• Record, analyse and report inspection results accurately, benchmarking against industry best practices.

Required profile

• Minimum NQF Level 4–5 qualification (Grade 12/Matric plus a Higher Certificate or equivalent).
• Post‑school qualification in Non‑Destructive Testing, including MPI and UT Level 1 certification.
• At least 2 years of NDT experience in a steel manufacturing or heavy‑industrial environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and related computer applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Willingness to work overtime and shift work as required.
• Ability to work safely in a production setting and pass a pre‑employment medical exam.
