Naval Architect

About the role

The Naval Architect will lead all naval architecture activities for marine mining and sampling vessels, ensuring designs meet performance, safety and regulatory standards. This position sits within the Upstream Technology Department and reports to the Engineering Manager – Technical Services Unit.

Key responsibilities

• Develop requirement specifications, general arrangements, class and detailed designs for new builds and conversions.
• Perform vessel motion, mooring and dynamic positioning (DP) analyses, as well as trim and stability calculations in line with statutory requirements.
• Represent the client during construction or conversion, overseeing warranty and quality issues.
• Define powering and propulsion solutions and ensure compliance with marine certificates and safety plans.
• Conduct structural evaluations, fatigue strength assessments, and intact/damage stability studies for new vessels, upgrades and maintenance projects.
• Support cost‑saving initiatives, prepare cost estimates, budgets and project timelines.
• Liaise with classification societies and obtain necessary statutory approvals.
• Develop and maintain on‑board stability software and weight‑management tools.

Required profile

• Professional qualification in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in design, construction or conversion of marine vessels, preferably in mining or offshore sectors.
• Strong understanding of classification rules, statutory regulations and safety standards.
