National Fixed Assets Controller

About the role

The National Fixed Assets Controller will oversee the company’s fixed‑asset register across South Africa, ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with IFRS and internal policies, and reliable reporting for finance and audit purposes. The role works closely with finance, procurement, operations and IT teams to safeguard assets and support capital‑expenditure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the national fixed‑asset register, recording acquisitions, transfers, disposals and impairments with supporting documentation.
• Administer asset capitalization, depreciation, useful‑life reviews and impairment assessments in line with IFRS and company policy.
• Perform monthly reconciliations between the asset register and the general ledger, investigating and correcting discrepancies.
• Manage CAPEX approval workflows, review project expenditures and ensure proper transfer of completed projects into the asset register.
• Process purchase and investment orders in SAP, and handle weekly supplier payments and CAPEX forecasts.
• Coordinate asset verification programmes across all sites, investigate variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare regular fixed‑asset, depreciation and capital‑expenditure reports for management and audit purposes.
• Provide training and guidance on fixed‑asset policies and controls to finance and operational teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; professional qualification (CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA) advantageous.
• 5‑8 years of finance experience, including at least 3 years managing a large multi‑site fixed‑asset portfolio.
• Proven experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Syspro, Dynamics) and asset‑management modules.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, fixed‑asset accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience supporting audits, CAPEX budgeting and month‑end close processes.
