Mid-Senior Accountant (US GAAP)

About the role

Hemisphere Talent Solutions is partnering with a growing US CPA firm to hire an experienced accountant who will work from Johannesburg and support US‑based clients. The role offers the chance to apply US GAAP expertise, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with an international team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Review and provide feedback on the work of junior accountants.
• Mentor and coach less experienced team members.
• Collaborate with US‑based leadership and internal teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 4–7 years of accounting experience, preferably in an accounting firm or professional services environment.
• Strong understanding and practical application of US GAAP.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Experience supporting US‑based clients and working remotely is highly desirable.
• Leadership or supervisory experience, including mentoring junior accountants, is a plus.
