Merchandise Buyer – Braai and Fuels

About the role

The Merchandise Buyer for Braai and Fuels will drive the category strategy by building commercially sound assortments, negotiating competitive terms and delivering sales, margin and stock turn targets. This role is central to the end‑to‑end execution of the category, ensuring customer value and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the approved category strategy.
• Select product ranges, set pricing and manage promotional input.
• Negotiate trading terms with suppliers and manage supplier relationships.
• Monitor sales, margin, stock turn and optimise inventory levels.
• Collaborate with Planning, Supply Chain, Marketing, Pricing and Store Operations for seamless merchandise lifecycle management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Retail, Commerce, Business or Supply Chain.
• Minimum 4 years buying or merchandise experience in retail, FMCG or wholesale.
• Proven track record of category performance management and supplier negotiation.
• Experience with ERP and merchandising systems such as SAP, JDA or equivalent.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, analytical thinking and negotiation skills.

• Forecasting and replenishment understanding.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling.
• ERP and merchandising systems (SAP, JDA, BI tools).
• Understanding of supplier contracts and trading terms.
