Mechanical Engineer – Plant Integrity & Projects

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to ensure the mechanical integrity of our plant, drive continuous improvement, and lead safety and training initiatives for the mechanical team. The role focuses on maintaining high plant availability while complying with South African laws and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain mechanical integrity of the plant and ensure compliance with South African regulations.
• Manage capital and operational projects, integrating relevant engineering disciplines.
• Lead safety, health, environmental compliance and housekeeping activities.
• Develop and deliver training for the maintenance team and mentor technicians.
• Implement and monitor SOPs/SEPs, conduct failure analyses, and drive process improvements.
• Plan and schedule maintenance activities, identifying continuous‑improvement opportunities.
• Provide technical support for rolling steel processes, proportional hydraulics, and rotating equipment.

Required profile

• B.Eng or B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering (NQF 7‑10).
• Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy engineering or manufacturing.
• ECSA professional registration (Pr.Eng SAIMech) preferred.
• Knowledge of South African OHS Act and relevant engineering codes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP.
• Advanced use of MS Office and MS Project.
• Experience with CMMS systems.
• Computer literacy for engineering applications.
