Mechanical Engineer – Mining & Minerals Processing

About the role
The Mechanical Engineer will ensure that all designs meet project requirements, company objectives, and statutory regulations while being delivered on time and cost‑effectively. The role involves close collaboration with clients, construction teams, and vendors to guarantee safe, reliable, and maintainable plant solutions in the mining and minerals processing sector.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and review technical specifications, calculations, design criteria, tender and installation documents.
- Maintain up‑to‑date project filing systems and ensure designs support construction methods and plant operation.
- Review and comment on multidisciplinary design documents and approve vendor documentation.
- Estimate, control, and review design scope changes and attend factory acceptance tests.
- Liaise with clients and site construction staff to resolve technical queries.
- Prepare project close‑out reports comparing design and procurement budgets.
- Conduct design group meetings, record minutes, and provide progress reports.
- Allocate work to discipline engineers and support proposals and man‑hour estimates.
Required profile
- BSc, BEng, B.Tech or National Diploma with a minimum of 5 years experience.
- ECSA registration.
- At least 8 years of mechanical design experience in mining and minerals processing, both in design offices and on‑site.
- Strong computer literacy – Microsoft Word, databases, spreadsheets and discipline‑specific design software.
- Hands‑on site experience in construction, commissioning, slurry pumping, materials handling and mechanical packages.

- Proficiency with CAD/CAE and related engineering software.
