Mechanical Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join the engineering team of a leading corrugated packaging manufacturer. The role is centred on improving plant reliability, driving continuous‑improvement initiatives and delivering engineering projects that keep manufacturing equipment operating at peak efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering support to production and maintenance teams to maximise plant availability and equipment reliability.
• Design, develop and implement mechanical improvements to equipment and production processes.
• Manage engineering projects from concept through budgeting, planning, installation, commissioning and hand‑over.
• Investigate recurring equipment failures and apply sustainable corrective actions using Root Cause Analysis.
• Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives focused on productivity, waste reduction, energy efficiency and cost savings.
• Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations and statutory requirements.
• Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality and Supply Chain teams to enhance operational performance.
• Monitor engineering KPIs, prepare technical reports and recommendations.
• Manage external contractors and service providers during projects and shutdowns.

Required profile

• BEng or BTech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in corrugated packaging, paper, converting, FMCG or printing.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics and industrial machinery.
• Proven experience managing engineering projects and continuous‑improvement programmes.
• Knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance principles.
• Valid driver’s licence.
