Mechanical Engineer – Drilling & Mining Equipment

About the role

An established engineering business specialising in advanced drilling and mining equipment, with local and international operations, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer in Carletonville, Gauteng. You will work alongside engineering, maintenance and operational teams to solve technical challenges, improve equipment reliability and support innovative engineering solutions. The position is permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support and troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
• Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes and implement practical solutions.
• Support field service, commissioning and operational teams locally and internationally.
• Improve equipment reliability, performance and maintenance efficiency.
• Contribute to equipment design improvements and engineering innovation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on technical projects.
• Maintain engineering drawings, technical documentation and safety standards.

Required profile

• BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3-5 years' mechanical engineering experience in mining, drilling or heavy industry.
• Experience supporting field operations, equipment maintenance or commissioning.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Valid driver's licence, medical fitness and willingness to travel locally and internationally.
• An advantage: ECSA Candidate Engineer registration, GCC Mines & Works, a project management qualification, SolidWorks/Inventor proficiency or hydraulic design experience.

Required skills

• Strong mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting skills, with an understanding of basic electrical systems.
• Proficiency in CAD or engineering design software.
• A practical, analytical approach to problem-solving.

The salary is open for discussion and will be market related depending on qualifications, skills and experience.
