Mechanical Designer – Mining Processing Plant

About the role

The Mechanical Designer will create and manage detailed mechanical drawings for a mining processing plant, ensuring compliance with industry standards, project requirements, and company procedures. The role requires a strong focus on safety, quality, and timely delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed mechanical drawings for all plant components, including crushers, screens, feeders, stockpiles, and belt conveyors.
• Ensure drawings meet project schedules, man‑hour budgets, and company drafting standards.
• Conduct vendor inspections, material take‑offs, and generate standard and detail drawings.
• Coordinate with consultants, multidisciplinary teams, and project managers to meet client objectives.
• Maintain internal and client review processes, guaranteeing clarity and accuracy of all deliverables.

Required profile

• Tertiary technical qualification (e.g., National Diploma) in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 3‑5 years of mechanical design experience in mining and minerals processing, both in design offices and field environments.
• Strong understanding of mining equipment (primary, secondary, tertiary crushers, vibrating screens, feeders, stockpiles) and belt conveyor systems.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain a methodical approach.
• Willingness to work in remote locations and adhere to HSE policies.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software, including 3D design packages.
• Experience in mechanical drawing production and drafting procedures.
• Knowledge of word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
• Familiarity with fabrication, construction, and operational aspects of mechanical systems.
