Mechanical Design Engineer – Johannesburg

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will translate engineering concepts into high‑quality, manufacturable designs, working closely with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and refine mechanical designs from concept through to implementation.
• Create detailed 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
• Perform engineering calculations, design reviews and technical assessments.
• Select appropriate materials, components and manufacturing methods.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, production, project and engineering teams.
• Review designs for functionality, manufacturability, reliability and cost.
• Support prototyping, testing, commissioning and continuous design improvement.
• Investigate technical problems and implement practical engineering solutions.
• Prepare technical documentation, specifications and engineering reports.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and specifications.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 2 years of post‑graduate mechanical design experience.
• Passion for turning concepts into practical, high‑quality designs.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD and engineering design software.
• Experience using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software.
• Strong ability to produce detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Solid understanding of material selection and manufacturing processes.
