Mechanic Assistant – Fleet Maintenance (Empangeni)

About the role

RCL Foods is looking for a motivated Mechanic Assistant to support the fleet of delivery trucks within its baking business unit in Empangeni. The role involves performing scheduled maintenance, handling breakdowns and assisting the lead mechanic to keep the fleet operating safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on delivery vehicles according to the maintenance schedule.
• Respond to after‑hours breakdowns on the local delivery fleet.
• Assist the lead mechanic with assigned tasks and follow their instructions.
• Maintain a clean and safe workshop, complying with HSEMS waste‑disposal and housekeeping standards.
• Handle mechanical and electronic gauges properly to avoid equipment failure.
• Document work performed and ensure all safety procedures are followed.

Required profile

• Matric certificate.
• 2–3 years of experience in a FMCG workshop environment.
• Ability to work under pressure, be proactive and detail‑oriented.
• Strong initiative, accountability and a people‑oriented attitude.

Required skills

• Diesel mechanic qualification (advantageous).
• Experience with FAW, Fuso, Hino and Nissan trucks (advantageous).
• Competence in using mechanical and electronic diagnostic gauges.
