Managing Director

About the role

We are seeking a Managing Director to lead a dynamic industrial production and import‑distribution business serving South Africa and the wider Sub‑Saharan market. The company employs 90 staff across Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban and offers specialist, custom‑engineered products to commercial, mining and infrastructure clients.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall strategic direction, operational performance and commercial success of the multi‑site business.
• Lead and mentor senior managers including Finance, Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, Service and General Management.
• Develop and deliver annual business plans, budgets, performance targets and long‑term growth strategies.
• Drive new business development, key‑account management and expansion across Southern Africa, building relationships with suppliers, OEMs and channel partners.
• Oversee the ISO‑accredited production facility, ensuring compliance with legislation, ISO standards and OHS regulations.
• Optimise supply‑chain, inventory and logistics while maintaining cutting‑edge technical competence.
• Manage full P&L responsibility, cash‑flow, forecasting and financial controls.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering qualification (electrical and mechanical) with a post‑graduate business qualification considered advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years of senior leadership or general management experience with full P&L accountability.
• Proven track record of sustaining a high‑performance culture and managing multi‑site, geographically dispersed teams.
• Strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
