Main Pump Station Operator

About the role

We are looking for a Main Pump Station Operator to manage the effluent irrigation pump station at Sappi’s mill. The role ensures safe, efficient operation of the main pump, supporting water management and environmental compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the main pump station on a daily basis.
• Communicate with the Irrigation Supervisor, Farm Operations Superintendent and maintenance teams.
• Record dam water levels hourly and provide feedback to effluent plant operators.
• Control gypsum addition to maintain prescribed S.A.R. levels.
• Report any equipment defects or problem areas to supervisors.
• Maintain good housekeeping and adhere to mill safety standards.
• Comply with the 8 Life‑Saving Rules and conduct BBS observations and other safety initiatives.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
• At least 6 months of relevant experience.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Experience operating a skid steer is advantageous.
• First Aid Level 1, Gas Tester Certificate, BBS and isolation procedure knowledge are a plus.
