Legal Professional – Transactions & Treasury (Shanghai)

About the role

The New Development Bank is seeking an experienced Legal Professional to join its Legal‑Transactions team in Shanghai. The incumbent will provide expert legal counsel across sovereign and non‑sovereign transactions as well as treasury and capital‑markets activities, ensuring compliance with the Bank’s policies and international regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the drafting, review and negotiation of complex loan, investment, inter‑creditor, guarantee and security documents for sovereign and non‑sovereign projects.
• Manage legal aspects of treasury operations, including derivatives, repurchase agreements, borrowing programmes and bond issuances.
• Identify, assess and report legal risks, offering practical mitigation strategies to transaction teams and senior management.
• Coordinate with external counsel to obtain country‑specific legal opinions.
• Mentor junior legal staff and contribute to the continuous improvement of legal templates and processes.
• Participate in cross‑functional working groups and other departmental initiatives as required.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in law from a recognised university.
• Admission to practice law in at least one New Development Bank member country.
• Significant experience in banking, project finance, sovereign finance or treasury legal work.
• Strong analytical abilities and proven track record of managing complex transaction documentation.

Required skills

• Legal drafting of loan and investment agreements.
• Knowledge of sovereign and non‑sovereign financing structures.
• Understanding of treasury products such as derivatives and bond issuances.
