Legal Officer

About the role

The Legal Officer will provide comprehensive legal support to HWSETA, ensuring compliance with legislation, regulatory requirements and corporate governance standards. This role involves advising internal stakeholders, managing contracts, and supporting litigation and risk management activities.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate legal office activities, provide legal opinions and advice.
• Maintain paper and electronic filing systems and safeguard confidential information.
• Prepare legal documents, correspondence and contract drafts.
• Track legislative changes affecting HWSETA and conduct legal research.
• Monitor policy registers and alert business units to required reviews.
• Support compliance and quality assurance initiatives, including POPI compliance.
• Compile annual PAIA reports and assist with corporate governance gap analysis.
• Maintain contract management processes, registers and expiry alerts.
• Gather and communicate legal updates, statutes and relevant judgments.
• Assist with investigations into fraud, corruption, misconduct and related reporting.
• Liaise with external legal firms, prepare court statements and support SAPS case filings.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent.
• 3‑5 years of experience in a corporate legal environment.
• Knowledge of corporate legal matters; SETA experience is an advantage.
• Valid driver’s licence.
