Legal Counsel – Retail

About the role

The Legal Counsel (Retail) will provide business‑focused legal advice, contract support and product guidance to Momentum Investments' retail businesses. The role requires deep knowledge of South African financial services regulation, including LISP platforms, insurance, retirement products and relevant statutes.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of legal documents such as investment management agreements, service level agreements, client‑facing documents, product terms, marketing material and data agreements.
• Monitor and report on legal risks, regulatory developments and emerging compliance issues; support training on legal updates.
• Advise internal stakeholders on contracting, service and product queries, and interpret legislation for operational processes.
• Provide legal support for product launches, portfolio initiatives and regulatory change projects, collaborating with tax, marketing, compliance and IT teams.
• Work with compliance and risk teams to embed good governance, implement internal controls and track legislative impacts.

Required profile

• LLB degree and admission as an attorney.
• 3–5 years post‑admission legal experience, preferably within a LISP/wealth environment.
• Strong knowledge of South African financial sector laws (FAIS, FICA, CISCA, Insurance Act, Pension Funds Act, POPIA).
• Demonstrated experience in contract drafting and wealth platform products.
