Legal Counsel

About the role

The Legal Counsel will provide strategic, specialised legal and commercial advice to senior stakeholders, supporting the company’s cash value chain and overall objectives. This role is pivotal in managing daily legal matters, drafting contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mitigating operational risks.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate high‑value commercial agreements with banks, retailers and suppliers, including Service Level Agreements and liability clauses.
• Ensure compliance with national financial regulations such as the National Payment System, AML and KYC requirements.
• Collaborate with risk and operational teams to minimise financial exposure and safeguard cash assets, including adherence to firearms and private security legislation.
• Manage litigation and dispute resolution for lost, damaged or stolen assets, liaising with external counsel and handling insurance or liability claims.
• Advise executive leadership on corporate governance, labour relations and corporate secretarial duties, preparing board resolutions and maintaining company records.

Required profile

• Matric/Grade 12 and an LLB degree or equivalent; admission as an Attorney or Advocate is essential.
• Minimum five years’ in‑house or top‑tier law firm experience, preferably in banking law, financial services or corporate/commercial litigation.
• Familiarity with National Payment System directives, risk mitigation and security legislation.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving abilities and commercial awareness.
