Legal Counsel – International Investment Firm

About the role

This is a rare opportunity for a high‑calibre commercial attorney to join the international legal team of a globally recognised investment firm. The role is designed for an admitted South African attorney seeking a first in‑house position and a strategic influence across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and enforce commercial agreements and legal documentation.
• Advise on a broad range of commercial, legal and regulatory matters.
• Provide legal guidance on new products, strategic initiatives and business operations.
• Collaborate with regulators, advisors and legal teams across South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and Mauritius.
• Monitor and interpret legal and regulatory developments, translating them into practical business solutions.
• Prepare regulatory and policy submissions, including tax‑related filings.
• Manage external counsel and support the continued development of the legal function.

Required profile

• Admitted Attorney in South Africa.
• Minimum six years of post‑admission experience.
• Articles completed at a leading commercial law firm.
• Strong commercial law background with exposure to complex transactions and agreements.
• Sound understanding of tax law, company law and trust law.
• BCom LLB degree; LLM in Taxation, HDip Tax or similar postgraduate tax qualification is advantageous.
