Legal Associate – Contract Management & Compliance

About the role

Ozow is seeking a Legal Associate to support its legal function across contract management, regulatory compliance, and risk advisory. You will work closely with the Head of Legal and multiple business units to ensure the company’s products and operations meet South African and international payment regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in drafting, reviewing, and processing contracts for commercial, product, and finance teams.
• Identify and communicate contractual issues to stakeholders and track system-related contract process problems.
• Monitor developments in payments law and financial services regulation, providing practical briefings on required actions.
• Support licence applications, regulatory filings, and reporting to payments regulators.
• Maintain compliance registers, controls, and internal policy templates.
• Apply risk‑management principles, flag material risks, and propose commercially sensible mitigation options.
• Maintain accurate legal document records, manage contract repositories, trackers, and registers.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve contractual and business‑risk issues.

Required profile

• Qualified legal professional with experience in contract drafting and regulatory compliance.
• Detail‑oriented with the ability to analyse legal and regulatory requirements.
• Experience working in a fast‑paced, innovative environment, preferably within fintech or payments.
• Strong research skills and ability to produce clear, actionable briefings.
