Legal Advisor – Technology & Digital Transactions

About the role

The Legal Advisor will provide proactive legal advice, transaction support and risk management for Nedbank's Group Technology business. The role underpins technology, digital transformation, cloud, outsourcing, data‑privacy, cyber and innovation initiatives while ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on a wide range of technology agreements, including software licences, SaaS/PaaS/IaaS cloud contracts, outsourcing, IT support, professional services, software development, data‑processing, telecommunications and AI‑related agreements.
• Provide practical legal counsel on technology, digital, cyber, privacy, data‑protection, intellectual property and regulatory matters, supporting business stakeholders throughout the contract lifecycle.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, ensuring adherence to banking, privacy, technology, outsourcing and governance requirements.
• Develop contract standards, legal playbooks and guidance documents, contributing to continuous improvement of legal processes.
• Build strong relationships with internal partners across Technology, Security, Procurement, Risk, Compliance and Vendor Management, collaborating to achieve commercial and strategic objectives.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and admission as an attorney of the High Court.
• Proven experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating technology agreements, with exposure to cloud, digital, software licensing and outsourcing transactions.
• Solid understanding of data‑protection and privacy legislation, including POPIA.
• Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast‑paced environment and deliver business‑focused legal advice.
• Strong written communication and contract‑drafting skills.
