Legal Advisor – Commercial Division

About the role

Join a leading South African financial services and payments company as a Legal Advisor embedded within its fast‑growing Commercial Division. You will work closely with senior management to protect the business through expert contract work, risk mitigation and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and finalise high‑value commercial agreements with suppliers, customers and strategic partners.
• Provide clear, commercially‑focused legal advice on existing contracts to support day‑to‑day operations.
• Advise senior management on South African legislation such as the NCA, POPIA, FICA and Companies Act, ensuring proactive compliance.
• Identify and develop risk mitigation strategies for new products and operational processes.
• Oversee litigation and legal disputes, managing external counsel when required.
• Deliver legal and administrative support to the Commercial Division leadership team.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from an accredited South African university.
• Minimum 3 years post‑articles experience at a top‑tier South African law firm or in‑house, preferably in payments or financial services.
• Proven track record in drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
• Commercial mindset with a focus on practical business solutions.
